OPEN LETTER: Women for Karen Bass

Dear Friends,

From now through Tuesday, June 7, Angelenos are casting their ballots for the next mayor of our city – and the stakes couldn’t be higher for women.

This election will decide the future of women and families in our City and we need a leader with a history of standing with and for us - not a late comer in the issues of gender justice. In a moment when abortion rights may be overturned nationally, we need a strong leader committed to reproduction justice. As inflation erases our economic power, where women are paid just 83 cents for every dollar a man makes, and homelessness is at an all-time high, we need a leader who has a plan and a track record to address the needs of everyday women and our families.

We are united in our steadfast support for Congresswoman Karen Bass, as well as our staunch opposition to Rick Caruso.

Mr. Caruso has spent decades donating to and supporting Republican politicians who have proven time and time again to be anti-woman and anti-family, taking such actions as:

  • Installing Supreme Court justices who are on the cusp of taking away the rights of millions of women in this country and abandoning our families.

  • Voting against a bills to help families, such as recent legislation to ease the baby formula shortage; and

  • Blocking legislation to protect families, including bills to stop gun violence and to protect voting rights.

It isn’t just that Mr. Caruso is a luxury real estate developer who failed to construct a single unit of affordable housing in this city while homelessness soared. He did, however, have the time to construct an offshore tax haven for his $100 million yacht. The truth is that he doesn’t represent the interests of women in Los Angeles and instead actively worked against our collective interests.

For Los Angeles, the choice is clear – we need to elect Karen Bass who we trust to always put the people first. Women and our communities need a leader that has proven her commitment to our rights and wellbeing right here in Los Angeles.

Sincerely,
